We are thrilled to be launching our brand new Steel Bones Carers Empowerment Programme for amputee family members.  This is the first time we have ever run such a programme and only possible, thanks to funding from Suffolk Community Foundation. We are passionate about ensuring the entire amputee family receives the support they need and we know many family carers do not see themselves as carers but are an absolute rock to keeping their family member steady and well.   It is so important that these special rocks take time out for them but we know this is very hard to do.

This programme will help us hugely in understanding what amputee family members need and will help us help more amputee families in the future.  We will be working with Linda Barbour, our wellbeing guru who has helped many people in the Steel Bones community with practical, simple tips and methods to bring calm and clarity even in the most difficult of times.

THIS IS FULLY FUNDED THANKS TO SUFFOLK COMMUNITY FOUNDATION CARERS FUND AND COMES AT NO CHARGE TO THE PARTICIPANTS.

Throughout the 10 month programme, we will be working 121 with 10 Amputee family carers in Suffolk providing 121 planning / goal setting sessions along with monthly webinars providing support with topics like:

  • Managing stress
  • Building confidence
  • How to avoid burn out, mental wellbeing daily toolkit
  • make time for yourself
  • stop feeling stuck and frustrated

The programme will culminate in a  styling makeover session in June 2021, providing social distancing allows.

Everyone at Steel Bones is extremely excited about this. It is a pilot and we much look forward to updating you as the programme progresses.  Thank you to our amazing participants for getting stuck in with it and helping us shape a model for all amputee family carers going forward.
