There is a much needed inquiry into the horrendous debacle that is PIP ESA assessments. We have come across so many Steel Bones families enduring this horrendous experience. We urge anyone who has experienced the assessments to post your comments and thoughts, bad and good through the the link below.
The scope of the inquiry
The Committee invites evidence on the effectiveness of assessment processes used to determine eligibility for Personal Independence Payments (PIP) and Employment and Support Allowance (ESA). The Committee is interested in receiving recommendations for change both on the assessment process for each benefit individually, and on common lessons that can be learned from the two processes.
This inquiry essential and only our voices will help inform their decisions and make the changes necessary for a positive step forward.
I received my letter from the DWP telling me I was awarded the enhanced rate of mobility for 18 months and the standard rate of care for the same period. I lost my right leg and had other serious injuries which happened to me in a car crash. I spent a total of 14 weeks in 3 hospitals and the surgeon’s and physiotherapist had sent their reports . I phoned the DWP on the same day and asked them why I was only receiving the award for 18 months and did they think my leg was going to grow back . Two days later I received another letter informing me my award was now for 30 months. They are a disgrace . I should not have had to phone to ask about this. And my award should have been for at least 3 years.
I would like to say one thing. When ATOS do your assessment please can we record it on our own equipment. As this will eliminate the problems of them Lying, to your face and putting something different on the form. And also when has a fibreglass and metal leg been your own leg, it’s a walking aid, always has been and always will be. So us amputees are different, if you are above knee it takes longer to walk, below the knee its very quick to walk as you have your own knee.
Its a big problem as we are going to be disabled the rest of our lives, not just for five mins till we get a false one. its FOREVER ..
As a lower limb amputee, I’d like to know why my prosthetic when I can wear it is NOT considered as a walking aid.? Without it I can not walk at all
