MAYOR OF STEVENAGE VISITS LOCAL AMPUTEE GROUP AND THEIR FAMILIES

Steel Bones were thrilled to welcome the Mayor Of Stevenage at their Stevenage meet up group in February. These are crucial meet ups to support local amputees and their families.

This project, originally funded by Stevenage Community Trust enables local amputees to attend nearby meet ups to meet one another.  A key factor in providing encouragement and support to help them overcome the trauma of amputation.

The past 3/4 years have been extremely tough for everyone and particularly amputees with access to physio and prosthetics reduced so Steel Bones is so thrilled to be able to support the local amputee community.

The project launched in January 2023, thanks to the collaboration with the local specialist Physio team who were determined to provide social peer support for their patients.  It has gone from strength to strength since.

The Group meets every 3^rd Wednesday of the month 12-2pm at Oval Community Centre. It is free to all.  The coffee and cakes are funded by any local grants Steel Bones can find. Thank you to the funders who make this possible and to the fantastic team organising these brilliant opportunities to bring more amputee families together.

Emma and Leigh Joy-Staines, the Charity’s Founders are passionate about creating opportunities which enable all amputees to unite and motivate one another to achieve their goals and live the best life.  They said the following “We are so thrilled we can work with the local NHS heroes and support local amputees in this way, it is vital we create as many opportunities as possible to unite the community again.”
