Steel Bones is a UK charity supporting amputees and their families. Every week, more families join our community seeking guidance, reassurance, and practical support after limb loss.
Our Family Mentors are the heart of this work. They’ve been there, understand the challenges, and can help others navigate life after amputation — from hospital recovery to benefits advice, from finding adaptive equipment to simply being a listening ear.
We are looking for more Family Mentors to welcome and guide new amputee families.
What you’ll do:
✅ Offer bespoke one-to-one support through a range of medias
✅ Utalise your lived experiences to help others access the right information and services
✅ Signpost families to Steel Bones resources and local support
✅ Be a positive, encouraging presence for those adjusting to life after limb loss
✅ Provide support and guidance tailored to the unique needs of families.
What you’ll gain:
The chance to make a real, lasting difference in someone’s life
The daily opportunity to empower families to enhance their wellbeing
Ongoing training and support from the Steel Bones team
A supportive volunteer network who share your passion
The reward of knowing your experience is helping others thrive
The opportunity to use your lived experience to shape and empower the community and organisation
Flexible commitment – you choose how much time you can give.
