May 2022
Dear Steel Bones Member
We hope this finds you well. We hope the sun is still shining with you.
We have some exciting news to share. We have been successful in securing a multiyear grant from the National Lottery Community Fund. This funding will enable Steel Bones to enhance infrastructure and build the team to meet growing demand. This will allow us to deliver 1-2-1 peer support to a further 750 amputees and their families across 3 years.
We are absolutely thrilled National Lottery Community Fund has chosen to value our community in this way and we are kickstarting the project right away. We are putting in place new IT infrastructure to make communications much more efficient making things as accessible and efficient as possible for the team so we can spend as much time supporting amputees as possible. We are also employing a Part Time Coordinator so please do let us know if you would be keen to hear more. All details can be found on the website: www.steelbonesuk.co.uk/blog but do not hesitate to ring 01223734000 to find out more.
We would love to celebrate with you at this year’s Celebration Day. This day is the pinnacle event of the year seeing 300 amputee family members coming together to celebrate all we have endured and overcome since 2020. We have the following planned:
- Workshops on wellbeing, careers, benefits, prosthetics and legal advice
- Panel discussion on how to overcome the tough times and celebrate the best
- Holistic taster treatments
- Fun and games including bouncy castles, zorbing, crafts and a some Magic shows
- Wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis
- Falconry Display
- Information Marquee Tent full of useful organisations for your needs
- BBQ and Vegan food plus lots of tea, coffee and cakes thanks to Tescos Newmarket.
This is a FREE EVENT for all amputee families. We also provide grants to help people travelling more than 100 miles away attend.
This year is particularly special, as we will be joined by the amazing Acro Iris Samba Band to kick off the event plus the wonderfully talented Douglas Bader’s Big Band will be performing. The Douglas Bader Big Band includes amputees who are musicians and they will be running some workshops if you fancy giving music a go.
Places will get booked up super quick so we urge any amputee and their family/friends wishing to join us to register here asap for their FREE ticket www.bookwhen.com/steelbones or ring the Steel Bones team on 01223734000.
Please do not hesitate to call the Team for any difficulties you may be facing or celebrate any achievements or good news you have had. The team always love to hear updates. If we do not know the answer, we will make a plan to find someone who can.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
