Suffolk Family
22 May 2026
At a recent Steel Bones Suffolk Regional amputee meet-up I was the cover host, visitors from different sectors of the NHS plus the legal sector joined us. We spent an enjoyable two or more hours of us all chatting together. At the close of our coffee catch up our visitors left us, only after stating how deeply moved they had been by observing the unique atmosphere of the group. More than anything, they commented on the profound sense of togetherness they had observed within such a diverse group of individuals.
Though everyone arrived with entirely different backgrounds and life paths, once seated around the table, became a collective space for sharing stories—each one unique, yet instantly understood by those nearby. The visitors noted a striking openness when it came to discussing complex medical and personal issues, free from judgment or hesitation.
Above all, the morning was defined by a powerful spirit of camaraderie. The collective mood was one of deep thankfulness for the community, paired with a fierce determination to look forward. It was a vivid reminder that when people come together to support one another, the ultimate outcome is True empowerment.
I felt incredibly proud that our unity had shone through to our visitors with every one of them individually having noted the exact same impressive message that had stood out to them. I then did stop to reflect on how fortunate I am to have met these wonderful people; our journeys began with profound experiences of limb loss and ongoing problems we have built such togetherness within the group. Steel bones haven’t just bought us together they have turned a shared hardship into a powerful, visible family.
It’s a vivid reminder to me, when people come together to support one another the ultimate outcome is True Empowerment!
