Hi guy’s my name is Neill Hudson and I’m in swindon (well someone has to be) I stubbed my big toe in 2015 and I spent a few months having it stitched and the stitches would pop and the to would get stitched again this went on for what seemed like ages I was having it dressed by my wife at home and seen in clinic every Thursday well one Saturday night Sarah went to change the dressing and over 72 hrs my toe had become black and painful I went to the hospital and the triage nurse was going to send me home with some antibiotics when the surgeon walked past and said no that’s gangrene that needs to be amputated and the long road started I had each toe removed individually and half of each foot this happened over a nine month stay in hospital, all the amputations were done under local anesthetic whilst amputating my left foot i suffered a stroke in theatre this has left my left hand side considerably weaker than my right consequently I am now not a suitable candidate for the prosthetic limb programme i was so disappointed about this but have now got over this lifes good i have a manual wheelchair and an electric one I live downstairs and the council converted the house in ten days while I had my left leg amputated below the knee in 2017 I had my right leg amputated in 2018 now things are good. I used to work for the salvation army working in a homeless hostel and I thought I can do anything I used to do just differently so I have applied to train to be a listener for the Samaritans because of covid it’s taking some time to get back to me, but I can do anything I used to do just differently. Thank you for listening Neill

Hi,
I am having my lower leg amputated in a few months. I am 24 and my mother is really struggling with it. The amputation is elective, but necessary to prevent decline.
I have been able to understand this, but my mother is finding it hard to understand.
I am worried and exhausted. I feel like I have not been able to grieve losing my leg due to constantly having to reassure my mum. I feel like it should be the other way around…
I am having to be strong for my family, but I really want someone to be strong for me.
I would like someone to please help me and my mum in some way.
Thank you,
Alex
