Steel Bones Canoe Challenge: August Update
We’re now less than three weeks away from the big day, and final preparations are moving at a fast pace! Excitement is building as we approach the challenge, and we’re thrilled to report that all our available training sessions are fully booked. A huge thank you to everyone who has participated so far!
The training sessions have proven invaluable, particularly in highlighting the difficulty of the portages for some of our amputee participants and the level of fitness required. If you haven’t had the opportunity to attend a session or feel that you need additional training, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’ll do our best to organize another date if there’s enough interest.
It’s also become clear that some of you might need extra assistance during the portages. If you haven’t yet spoken to us about this or would like further training, please contact us as soon as possible by calling 01223 734000. We want to ensure that everyone has the support and training they need to make this experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
On a personal note, I recently completed around 14 miles in one day, covering the lower part of the river. The scenery was just as stunning as the upper part, but I’ll admit that I was very tired by the end! It’s a good reminder of the challenge ahead, and I encourage everyone to take care of themselves in these final weeks of preparation.
We’re nearly there, team! Keep up the hard work, and let’s make this an unforgettable experience.
If you were not aware, the Nayland Wear portage and river footpath is shut in Sept – https://www.facebook.com/share/p/qTFpP9H2MeoAB9QB/ – just thought you may need to know ? Cheers
